Analyse measurements with Claude Code or Codex.

KymoStudio runs a local MCP server. Connected to Claude Code, Codex or another MCP client, your assistant can check sources, query retained samples and statistics, inspect traces and hotspots, arrange charts and control measurement recordings and export results – 57 tools, all on your own computer.

1. Enable MCP in KymoStudio

Install and start KymoStudio 2.3.0 or newer. Open Darstellung & Leistung → MCP-Steuerung, enable MCP and apply. The dialog shows the endpoint, for example http://127.0.0.1:8766/mcp. MCP is off after a fresh installation; you can allow read-only access and choose which folders the assistant may export to.

2. Register the adapter in Claude Code

The Windows installer includes KymoStudioMcp.exe, a stdio adapter that connects to the running app and reads the local token by itself:

Use your actual installation path and the endpoint from the settings dialog.

3. Plugin for Claude Code or Codex

The plugin adds the operating skill: status checks, bounded queries, measurement recordings, device parameters and waiting for captures and exports. Both clients use the same package.

4. Ask

  • “Check my sources and capture status. Do not change the running acquisition.”
  • “Show min, max, mean and RMS of channel 1 over the last 10 seconds.”
  • “Which functions in the current trace take the most self time, and which ones fluctuate?”
  • “Put channels 0 and 1 into one time-series chart and export the workspace as PNG.”
  • “Stop the running measurement recording and check that it was saved completely.”

Security and privacy

  • The server listens on loopback only – there is no LAN or Internet listener.
  • Read-only mode rejects every tool that would change something.
  • File tools only accept paths inside folders you granted.
  • The adapter reads the token file; never paste the token into a chat.
  • Your AI client may send requested measurement data to its provider.
